The Golden Globes: What Happened??
The Golden Globes caught the attention of just about everyone, with favorite summer movies “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” in the running for multiple awards, the dazzling celebrity attendance, and the shocking and inappropriate jokes made by the unpopular comedian Jo Koy. Starting off strong, “Oppenheimer” beat “Barbie” by taking home 5 Golden Globes, an impressive feat for director Christopher Nolan, who had yet to receive a Golden Globe before this. Barbie took home 2 of their 8 nominations, winning best original song “What was I made for?” by Billie Ellish and Finneas O’Connell, as well as the brand new award, best cinematic and box office achievement. Another notable award was received by Lily Gladstone, who became the first indigenous person to win a Golden Globe for best actress, working as the star in “Killers of the Flower Moon”. The audience at the Golden Globes helped draw attention to the awards night with celebrities like Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Lawrence, Selena Gomez, Ryan Gosling, Leonardo DiCaprio, and many others. Moreover, these celebrities graced the red carpet in elegant looks from Gucci, Armani, Prada, and Dior. As for the unpopular host Jo Koy, he made highly offensive and poorly received jokes directed at the Barbie movie, Taylor Swift, and others. Thousands on TikTok and other social media platforms were shocked and outraged by the so-called comedian. Koy did reveal he had been hired only 10 days before the event, however, it did little to soothe angry fans. Overall, the Golden Globes sure did leave the world with some things to talk about!
